Orogenic Sutures

CITTA VRITTI & SUTURE
MINDFORM| LANDFORM | LETTERFORM

English Renaissance poets believed that the earth responded to humans as humans might. I believe that our minds are much more akin to geologic forces than we realize, and continuously seek analogous links to practice and prove this concept. In Orogenic Sutures, I explore the relationship between thought production and geology through a process of grafting emergent considerations and phrases known as citta vritti (repetitive, compulsive, revelatory modifications of the mind) onto land forms, revealing their relationship through textiles and textile processes as the connective tissue. Literally stitching with thread or mark builds records of these phrases as sutures to form.
